District Patrons:
Nearly each area that the
district relies on is under fire, as are most patron budgets. Our goal is to maintain an open forum that
values the ideas and considerations of all district stakeholders. Many hard decisions lay ahead of us and the
goal of the local board of education and administration are twofold:
1.
To continue to
provide the best quality of education possible with the support of our local
community.
2.
To keep the
district in as close state and federal compliance as possible with the limited
financial support provided at these levels.
POTENTIAL CUTS FOR 2010-2011
This list is incomplete and is a work in progress. Your input is needed.
·
Close the middle
school (loss in enrollment/least efficient building)
·
Utilize every space
available
·
Study existing
inefficiencies (minimize idle classrooms)
·
One counselor
position
·
One music position
·
Spend less on
administrative salaries
·
Freeze salaries
(1-2 years minimum)
·
Restructure
Preschool, Gifted, HAWKS, PAT
·
Food and Consumer
Sciences (may need to be replaced with updated needs of students if students
cannot be accommodated in current courses)
·
Summer School –
June 2010 (exceptions may be necessary based on credit recovery and special
needs)
There will be other
considerations as well. We are asking
for patron support and suggestions. Much
of the cuts listed above have been generated by a group effort of faculty,
staff, and patrons. It is a board
priority to attempt to keep elementary student-teacher ratios in line with
those across the state.
